Haiku Rebel

I wrote a haiku,
Past seventeen syllables
Page became poem

Fangs

Oh, maybe I won't name names
But I'll use two quills as fangs
Perhaps a smidge, yin and yang
Bright, white page with night, ink stain
Bloodwell drops, penned sorrows rain
Sweeter morrows, be my gain
Light and dark, come kill the pain

Necromancer

I.
Not a tempest in a teapot
But distant plane, some have forgot
And it won't do, and it won't do
I call forth the shadows,... peer through

II.
Hello or good bye, yes or no
Planchette is placed, chalice Bordeaux
And with a heart-shaped, little plank
Welcome from world, vast and dank

III.
Eleven : eleven blesses
Hazel eyes and raven tresses
Our thirteenth chime awaits nearby
Yes or no, hello or good bye

IV.
Spark the candle, lend to my voice
Spectral portal, tend with your choice
Let me be your enchanted host
Show me the things, you covet most

V.
Memories, recorded vision
Lightning strike, be your incision
To this side and ready wonder
By flesh, blood and steady thunder

VI.
Tell your tale and well, I shall scribe
Prolific journals, sweet imbibe
Slate poised, unrehearsed sessions
Sate my thirst, unriddle questions

VII.
Beyond life, death and mortal coil
The folds of time, unearthly soil
Flotsam souls, mine to thine now merge
Old and kindred, shared lonesome dirge

VIII.
Terror-spurned from your window's sash
Perhaps others would dread and dash
Whose niche is that of a jackal
Aging, sure as youth will crackle

IX.
But I invoke thee, bring cold swirls
Fling opulent orbs, dancing pearls
We live but shells, reckoning task
Beckoning quench of unknown cask

X.
Vent, weep, whisper, scream and opine
Slither, unwither, serpentine
Unleash,... I beseech, unravel
Crawl from secrets, splay the gravel

XI.
What say you, what of portent dares ?
What descent creaks upon the stairs ?
Disconnected stride, bid token
Enter, center bide, unbroken

XII.
Unveil what cannot be unseen
Strip the night, unto toll, thirteen
Whatsoever pitch envelop
Free, clear as portraits develop

XIII.
I call forth shadows, touch my veins
Love and care, without harm nor chains
Exodus, black room, sheltered gloam
If so inclined, make here, your home

Drops of Moonlight

Oceans of love
Each time I'm with you
Each time I see you
I wrap 'round your sighs and laughter
As a shell encompasses an oyster
And a treasure within
And another created
And another created
Precious moments, connecting
A string of pearls
As stepping stones to more and more
Drops of moonlight
The ebb of disappointment set adrift
Replaced with elation
Salty spray engulfing me (entirely)
Tides
Pulling me in
Rushing around me
Foam, current, waves of splendor
White sand orbs
Brilliant
Every speck
Every glittering morsel
My opulence
Love, love, love

Nocturne

The sparkling moonlight hesitates
Clouds scarcely sketch lilac
The invisible moves and waits
'Neath velvet skies of black

And I am the hunter, I am the prey
I am the wolf, I am the lamb (I am)

His eyes are blue ... baby, ice blue
But warm impulse is led
Blood and fire create a brew
Crimson, red ... baby, red

I am the hunter and I am the prey
I am the wolf and I am the lamb
If there is heartbreak for me to know
Let it come ... from one ... so beautiful
Ravenous and willing, I will go
(catch my wink ... if you ... offer up the same)

Death (dream life) ... baby,... life (dream death)
Who will be the sleeper?
Lovely pensiveness, take my breath
Shades of gray call deeper

If I grasp only a shadow and you do not exist
Know, I will disappear and be the unseen, unknown ...(*kiss*)

I am the hunter and I am the prey
I am the wolf and I am the lamb
If there is heartbreak for me to know
Let it come ... from one ... so beautiful
Ravenous and willing, I will go
(catch my wink ... if you ... offer up the same)

Summer Gloaming

Our story is one that began long ago
Old photographs cue like a movie reel
Love is a gentle lull with tender glow
Now, it's a sunset that I search to steal

We held a brilliant light
Gone before its time
But I would follow your heart in mine
I felt some dreams come true
And I felt some loss
As uneasiness would pass me through
I was always with you
Old photographs don't lie
We touched the sun before it said goodbye

I knew solace once, through innocent days
Laughter didn't fear blurred uncertainty
Our eyes were ready for imperfect rays
We would challenge and make our destiny

The memories come flooding back so bright
We shared moments and place that know no end
Yesteryear burns like August with ignite
Summer gloaming reflects love's lasting send

(as a shimmering muse
... there won't be another like you again)

There is a brilliant light
Saved somewhere in time
It is your heart that follows in mine
Feeling some dreams come true
And feeling some loss
As uneasiness passes on through
I'm always part of you
Old photographs don't lie
I'll catch your sun and never say goodbye

Maybe

Maybe my perspective is obsolete
Maybe your directive is incomplete
Something's unclear, some anchor is obscure
Puzzlement and detachment, as it were
(All scenarios are dysfunctional)

Caught up within the mesmeric ideal
Caught up til endeavor is overkill
Maybe nostalgia is our deja vu
Maybe you're bored and I haven't a clue

Maybe I'm a one stop philosophy
Maybe today is one shot poetry
Balladry is fifty-five words or less
Odyssey is potluck, shall I repress?
(All scenarios are dysfunctional)

Caught up within the mesmeric ideal
Caught up til endeavor is overkill
Maybe you're sweet spot, chink in the armor
Maybe I'll leave, maybe I'll love you harder

Perfect Reflection

See ... the lover's connection
Alongside looking glass that ties
You move, I move, perfection
Collecting warmth that weaves your eyes

See ... the lover's reflection
Window to window, backgrounds fade
Touch to touch and direction
Passing through your light, love arrayed

The fighter stirs the Lionheart
The sage comforts the broken soul
The poet draws the dreamer
The joker lifts the child grown old

This mirror can't shatter
Nothing else, here, matters
Except unflinching sun
And two become as one

First To Let Go

The scenery may change
But we remain the same
Past some distraction, what's to know?
You're always the first to let go
You pull your hand away
And my fingertips fall
Doesn't that say it all?

On the town, in the crowd
Off the cuff and unbowed
I whisper useless fantasy
And envisage what's not to be
You pull your hand away
My attempt meets a wall
Doesn't that say it all?

Figures exchange a private glance
And I watch their close shadows dance
Safe, in a fathomless cocoon
It seems you have become immune
Songs roam with disconnected crawl
Reasoning plays out pointless stall
We are posed, as loveless statues
Stone-cold, doesn't that say it all?

High was hollow, we've sunk so low
You're always the first to let go
You pull your hand away
And my fingertips fall
Doesn't that say it all?

Wolf Song

New starlight glistens
Wise moon spell listens
Pack is restless and prowls
Pitch-dark unveils rise
Wild wakes midnight eyes
Illumination howls

There will be loyalty
There will be intensity
I will burn through you
And you will burn through me
Old souls will once again be
(Kindred)

Breeze carries bouquet
Closer ... circles bay
Shapeshifters throw shadows
Heartbeats stead mirror
Nearer and nearer
How deeply pulse echoes

She-wolf must find mate
Cold night must celebrate
Song will uplift its head
Breath will spray from mouths of red
And our deathless love will free
Old souls will once again be
(Kindred)

Moon spell never knows end
Timeless eyes ever suspend
Burning, glowing
Sweet blood flowing

Betray

There's a shifting in the eyes
As they turn and look away
Then ... reveals a shrug of chill
When its sender schemes betray
The worst of love-breaking aim
Stabs with how the once so dear
Bends to cryptic and silence
Spineless posed and insincere

Beloved

Love, if I can't find you here
Maybe on the other side
I can feel you, I sense you
Sometimes I think I hear you calling
Through nightmares
Where my fear and fight collide
Telling me to wake
Telling me ... "don't break"
Lingering the deep
I brave reckless sleep
To reach past screams, to unmask dreams
For the ghost I've wed
Beloved
Forever

Most others have settled down
Others have matched peace and fate
I can feel you, I sense you
Sometimes I think I catch your shadow
Through lost days
Where my soul searches for mate
Stirring with the trees
Stirring with the breeze
You're the only one
Sentio cor meum
Feel me with you, I am ghost too
For the haunting led
Beloved
Forever

Love, in this life or on the other side
Sentio cor meum
Semper et in aeternum
Into all time

Found within each other
Bound within each other
My love
In omne tempus
Into all time

(c) Kay Irvin

Translation (latin):
[from my understanding and as I intended, here]
Sentio cor meum - Feel my heart
Semper et in aeternum - Always and Forever
In omne tempus - Into all time

Haunting Promise

There, among the ginger, Autumn leaves
Where in cinder hues dance eerie eves
With crisp edges shadow gliding rush
Blown to your door and scattering crush
Know ... I am but a whisper away

There, amid the late, October rain
Where chill billows mist to window stain
With some formation memory holds
Inscribed reach through your slit curtain folds
Know ... I am but a whisper away

You are not mad, who dream when awake
The witching hour makes no mistake
There, as the tall clock chimes thirteenth bell
You will find the haunt that promised dwell

There, within the hazing before dawn
Where to morning envies ghostly swan
With cast drifting between gleam and gloom
You will not be alone in your room
Know ... I am but a whisper away

Firethorn

Give us a sweet goodbye
Before illusion fades to scorn
When the sunset aims sly
And our reality is torn
The rose will sleep beauty
As flames of daylight's death is born
Firethorn

Give us one last embrace
Before the garden withers stark
Blossoms will bleed with grace
As shadows rush to steal their spark
I was too close to see
Full picture always hid true mark
To the dark

I give us love and hate
It's wrapped in the pause that's worn
We opened up the gate
To grounds bound empty and forlorn
Burn and sharp intertwine
Our end befalls as brightness mourns
Firethorn

Velvet Crush

Alone
We were
Mid shadow falls
And the stardust
And the moon
Were dripping light
Silvery and serene
Illumination

And the trees
Were swaying
Cool and inviting
Captivation

Your arms
Encircled
Needing me
I felt safe in your embrace
Needing you

I imagined love
As cling wove heartbeat-mesh
Black lace lined soft-crunch press
And as your breath
Warm-whispered
With
Velvet crush

(c) Kay Irvin

Tangled

Love has been suppressed far too long
Enchanted seasons can't be wrong
I could stay tangled by your slight
But Spring blossom scent fills the night

You come and go but never see
Love aspires epiphany
I could stay tangled with regret
But Summer starlight won't forget

Love has built up to overflow
With one, slow embrace it will show
I could stay tangled to the dark
But Autumn leaves release a spark

Midnight Anthems

Fairly a rustle but of pen to paper
Some lyrics
Some melodic strokes
Interrupting the silence
Slit of the curtains
As sporadic lights
Pulse
Splitting shadowy corners
Frosted glass ... a sigh's exhale
And the hours pass by
Edge of the night
Edge of the pages
Turning

The tawny will soon come
But for now
Time still slowly revolves
Through stardust

~13 ~

I dreamt of Midnight turning to the thirteenth hour.
I dreamt of thirteen candles and thirteen, black flowers.
I walked past thirteen windows and entered the thirteenth hall,
Where a calendar, marked thirteen, suspended the wall.

Thirteen black cats perched on thirteen, high, wooden rafters.
They taunted prowling wolves with their slow, purring laughter.
Thirteen footsteps, I took, to consider this story.
The view was surreal with all its fictional glory.
But on this thirteenth slumber of the thirteenth, same dream,
Some sanely truth was offered from the madness that seem.

I heard a clock chime with thirteen, long, lingering bells
And I envied this theme with its corridors of spells.
Onward, I awoke to the reality of dawn
And the peculiar kingdom of illusion was gone.
I reckoned with each to decide the strangest of place
And found that the factual and dream parallel pace.
